Xeomin®: Treatment for frown lines that is truly worth smiling about!
Botox® is one of the most common cosmetic treatments going. But it is by no means the only treatment of its kind. Our team at Precision Skin Institute distinguishes, in part, from other practices in Davie, Florida, and beyond with our wide range of options to combat signs of aging and sun damage. In addition to Botox®, we offer Xeomin®. This injectable treatment works similarly to Botox® and other such neuromodulators in its treatment category; however, all of these products vary in how they are engineered or processed. This feature can make one neuromodulator or neurotoxin more attractive to a patient than another. Our board-certified providers are happy to discuss their distinctive qualities and recommend the best options for you during a consultation.
How is Xeomin® similar to Botox® and other neurotoxin injections?
These neuromodulators are generally formulated with botulinum toxin-A. When this formulation is introduced to precise points of the face, it works to smooth frown lines by blocking the release of chemicals that signal the treated muscles to contract. When the muscle can’t contract, it is unable to contribute to the expression and the lines that are left behind on less elastic skin. Nerves send messages to your muscles that tell them to contract. These contractions are responsible for facial expressions. Every time you frown or squint, a small groove forms under the skin’s surface. In youthful skin, these lines are only seen when you express yourself. Partly due to the age-related erosion of structural components, such “dynamic lines” become static ones that stick around even when your face is at rest.
What makes Xeomin® unique?
The makers of Xeomin®, Merz Pharmaceuticals, use a proprietary process to manufacture Xeomin. This process creates a highly purified type of botulinum toxin: incobotulinumtoxinA. It is characterized as a “naked” molecule because it contains no additives that are not related to active treatment. In turn, there is less risk that your body will perceive Xeomin® as a harmful invader and respond by developing antibodies against it. These antibodies can reduce the effectiveness of treatment over time.
What should I expect from treatment?
Xeomin® can be injected in as little as 10 minutes. While optimal results can be seen in around 14 days, improvement in the appearance of the frown lines between the eyebrows may be visible in half that time. Results can last up to four months before a “touch-up” treatment at our office is needed. When you trust qualified and skilled injectors like our team in Davie, FL, side effects are minimized and limited to the treatment site, and the results look incredibly natural. Here again, we only target the specific muscles responsible for your lines. The rest of your face can move naturally; it takes several muscles to make even the most subtle facial expression.
