Is there an order in which all of these beauty products should be applied?
It’s okay, you’re not alone. At Precision Skin Institute in Davie, one of the best dermatologists in the south Florida area, we get asked this question every single day – at least! Sure, there are products that combine both SPF with moisturizers, however, if you’re using both products separately, it’s important to have an effective skin-protecting and beautifying strategy.
First and foremost, it’s important to remember that sunscreen is a necessary skin-saving component no matter the weather, time of year, or type of skin you have. Recent statistics show that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer over the course of their lifetime, and each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon.
If your sunscreen is a formulation of chemical components, meaning it contains oxybenzone or avobenzone, most experts agree that it should be applied first. This kind of sunscreen needs to be applied to fresh, clean skin, and make contact with skin cells. It needs time to be absorbed in order for the chemical components to activate, become effective and truly protect your skin from harmful UV rays.If your sunscreen isn’t chemically-based, however, and contains titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide as the main skin-protecting ingredients, feel free to save it for last and allow your skin products to penetrate your skin and work their magic.
As for all of the other skin-perfecing products you should be using on a daily basis, we have a plan for that, too!
Don’t forget to check out our product shop for some of the best skin products around, and of course, schedule a skincare consultation with any one of our skincare professionals to determine the best plan for your face.
