Acne

Acne is a condition that affects millions of women and men. It often begins in adolescence but can continue into adulthood. Hormones, type of skin care, genetics, stress, certain medications and diet play a role the development of acne. There are many different treatment options for acne, such as: prescription topical and oral medications, laser and medical facials, chemical peels, photodynamic therapy, cortisone injections into inflamed cysts, and home skin care regimens.

Acne Scars

Acne scars are usually the result of inflamed blemishes caused by skin pores filling with excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. The skin attempts to repair these lesions by forming new collagen fibers. These repairs usually aren’t as smooth and flawless as the original skin. Acne scars can be depressed, raised up and other different shapes. Consultation with our practitioners is highly recommended to evaluate an ideal treatments (e.g. laser, chemical peels, PRP, or injectables) for your individual scars.

Broken Blood Vessels

Broken blood vessels are visible enlarged blood vessels that appear on the face and other parts of the body. They are fine, red veins that are commonly located on the nose, chin, or cheeks. These vessels usually appear as a result of aging, pregnancy, childbirth, birth control pills, estrogen replacement therapy, sun damage, and Rosacea. Laser treatment is the most effective treatment for broken blood vessels.

Brown Spots

Brown spots are sun or age induced pigmentary changes and can be corrected by laser or chemical peels. Sun spots can also be prevented by proper sun protection, such as use of SPF 30 or higher sunscreen with zinc titanium oxide and reapplied throughout the day.

Eczema

Eczema is a persistent inflammation of the skin. Symptoms include dryness and recurring skin rashes that are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin swelling, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed injuries.

Melasma

Melasma is a common skin problem. It causes brown to gray-brown patches on the face. Most people get it on their cheeks, bridge of their nose, forehead, chin, and above their upper lip. It also can appear on other parts of the body that get lots of sun, such as the forearms and neck. Women are far more likely than men to get melasma. It is so common during pregnancy that some people call it the mask of pregnancy. Hormones seem to trigger melasma.

Treatments options include personalized skincare, peels, and PicoWay.

Moles

Moles are common. Adults who have light skin often have more however, every adult has a few. This is normal. You should not be overly worried about them. But you should know what to look for. If you have a changing, growing or symptomatic mole, please visit us for skin evaluation. Also, if you have personal family history of melanoma or atypical moles, we advice monthly self-skin checks and regular (at least annually) skin checks with our qualified practitioners.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a common chronic skin condition that is thought to likely have an autoimmune cause. Psoriasis presents as red scaly rashes on various areas of the skin, most commonly on the elbows and knees. Rarely it can involve the nails and appear as thickened, pitted, and/or discolored. In addition to skin involvement, joints can be affected. Treatment options include topical prescription creams, oral medications, light therapy, and injectable biologic treatments.

Skin Cancers

Skin cancers are cancers that arise from the skin. They are due to the development of abnormal cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. There are three main types: basal-cell cancer (BCC), squamous-cell cancer (SCC) and melanoma. It is important to check with your Dermatologist for skin cancer screenings.

Scars

When you injure your skin, your body works to repair the wound. The body creates collagen (a tough fiber in your body that gives the skin strength and flexibility) to reconnect the tissues broken apart by the injury. While the body does this work, it creates a scab over the wound. The scab protects the wound from germs as the body heals. When the injured skin is repaired, the scab dries up and falls off. In its place, there may or may not be a scar. If there is a scar, it can be pale pink, brown, or glossy. Cortisone injections and laser treatments are optimal way to treat various scars. Your Dermatologist can talk with you about how to make scars less visible on the skin.

Treatments options include injectables, microneedling, and lasers.
