Answering your common questions about chemical peels … your most customized cosmetic solution!

Chemical peels are among the most versatile types of procedures that skin experts like our own, Drs. Lesley Clark-Loeser and Marianna Blyumin-Karasik have at their fingertips to bring fresh, undamaged cells to the surface. This dynamic category of skin resurfacing may be used to restore a youthful “glow” or soften scars and wrinkles. The “magic” of the peel is its high level of customization when in the hands of our highly capable and qualified team at Precision Skin Institute of Davie, Florida.

How do chemical peels “work”?

There are myriad peels to choose from, as you will see. They are all generally based on the same steps or concepts. First, the skin is “prepared.” Then, a specialized solution is applied. This solution may be characterized as a light or superficial peel, a medium peel, or a deep peel. The type of peel, as well as its formulation, depends on the nature of your skin concerns, as well as the severity of those concerns, and your personal preferences and characteristics (like skin type).

What is the difference between a light peel versus a deeper peel?

These terms refer to how deeply the solution penetrates the skin. Light peels generally require more treatment sessions to get desirable results. However, they are well-tolerated and do not require any downtime. Deeper peels can support dramatic results; however, they are associated with greater risks of side effects and complications, as well as special needs for recovery and healing. A thorough consultation helps us better understand your needs and wants so we can recommend the best option for you.

What peels do you offer?

We have several! We may suggest the Lactic, AHA-based peel for a quick boost of radiance. Little to no downtime is required, and it is an appropriate option for sensitive, dry, and mature skin types. For acne-prone skin, we may recommend a beta hydroxy acid salicylic peel. This peel supports clear skin by cleansing and tightening pores. Another AHA peel, Glycolic Acid, may be suitable for all skin types and combats the effects of sun damage – from lines to hyperpigmentation or brown spots.

What are your stronger peels?

The Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) peel is among our strongest options. It sloughs off dead skin cells and encourages cellular regrowth. As a deep peel, it can effectively improve the appearance of more severe skin concerns such as scars, wrinkles, and stubborn pigmentation. SkinMedica’s Rejuvenize Peel™ is also appropriate for more severe skin imperfections, such as depressions like lines and wrinkles. Our “mid-point” peels include the Vitalize Peel™ (also by SkinMedica) and the VI Peel from VI Aesthetics. These medium-depth peels are generally appropriate for most skin types and a variety of tone- and texture-related concerns.
